The ongoing project

Sorry guys, still haven't got any paintings for you. However, I am here to tell/show you what's going on. For the past few months I've been working on the cover for a CD, along with a logo for the record company. You may remember back to November/December when I was producing posters and t-shirt designs for a musician. When I was making them, I had no idea I'd be using some of those designs. While the logo was for sure going to be used and possibly the CD cover, I wasn't sure how far it'd go. See, my boyfriend is starting a recording business and started recording this musician. You can check out his site here at: http://www.onemanarmyrecordings.com/

or 'like' his facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/OneManArmyRecordings

Well, I am excited to tell you guys that my album cover is now on iTunes! Check out Andrew Wood's single 'How High' and let me know what you think. Hopefully there will be more to come of his work. He's a really talented singer/songwriter.

Here's the entire album booklet:

And here's the new logo:

Hope you all are doing well. I keep thinking that I will be getting new paintings up here but I have yet to do anything about that... Oh well. Soon.

Do not use or copy the images above.

Photography

Hey guys! I know it's been a while. Class has been keeping me busy. I'm never taking two history classes at the same time ever again! Anyways, I haven't been painting at all the past two months (hopefully I can start again soon!), but I do have a few photographs from my photography class to show you.

This photo was for a shallow depth of field assignment.

Greater depth of field.

Stop-motion.

This is also a stop-motion picture. I didn't use it for the class but I still like this photo a lot.

So yeah, this is what I've been up to lately, that and learning how to make pottery. Once I have something finished in that class I'll post a picture for you! I know this isn't much, but it's something.

Moved out

Okay, so I need to apologize again for not being very prompt... I told you I would have these photos up last week. Better late than never, I suppose. Actually, now I'm recalling that I didn't even do a post last week, I just thought about it. Oh well. I was thinking about doing a post on what's been going on. I just moved out of my mother's house and moved into a friend's place. I thought I'd share photos of my new room and how I decorated it. It was fun, and really busy. Anyways, I'm almost completely moved in to my new place. My roommates have graciously accepted me this past week and I'm looking forward to spending more time with them.

Here are some photos of my room. It's not gorgeous by any means, but it was fun. And I got to nail things into the walls!

You might notice some of the paintings on my walls!

I also just took some fun close up photos of things around my room.

These are just some things on my desk. I'm way too excited about having one.

Okay, so this may sound a little strange, but I really like my blue nightstand that I got. Maybe because it's actually mine and I can keep it.

A tea set that a family friend brought back for me from China. She adopted two children from there. There is a calligraphy brush set at the bottom of the picture that is also from China. It was given to me by my friend, Chloe, who is one of the children (no longer a child) mentioned before.

My small stock of food for that week. Another big step into moving out - buying food.

So this last picture is one of those 'Kodak' moments. I turned around and Tashi (the cat) was curled up next to my beloved Reindoggy. She looked exactly like a stuffed animal and has become a frequent bed accessory. I just had to take a picture of her! Her name means 'Hello' in Tibetan and is probably the friendliest cat I've ever met.

So that's all. I'll probably post more pictures on here in the future. I'd like to keep this as an art blog, but I suppose our lives are masterpieces in themselves!

What I did on Break

So I want to apologize for the lack of posts this past month. I had great intentions to, however, certain situations kept me from doing so. Normally I won't post things about my life, but I feel I owe an explanation.

First reason was that finals week was probably one of the most exhausting/miserable/busy/long/frustrating week of my life. I was trying to keep up with school and the numerous projects and papers that went along with it. I was working on a project for a friend that ended terrible (in my opinion). I also had so places to be that week. With all that, I burned myself out. Emotionally. Mentally. Physically. Creatively. So, I did not paint my entire break. I just slept.

Second reason resulted in my loss of two wisdom teeth. I was out on my couch for an entire week. It took me forever to somewhat feel normal. I thought I would bounce back faster than what I did. I still can't eat crunchy food. The medication I was on caused me to sleep practically all day and it messed up my sleeping schedule, so I'm still working on that. Hopefully, my mouth won't feel sore soon. My desire to paint was completely put to rest due to two little teeth.
(I will not be posting pictures of me looking like a chipmunk)

Third reason for not painting is that I'm moving out! I've been trying to get things ready the past week or so and gradually moving my things into the house this week. I should be completely moved out by this Saturday! I'm really excited and I've been designing my new room. I'll put pictures up as soon as I'm done.

Classes start back this week. In fact, they started today. I wish I still had a little bit of break left, but I'm also kind of ready for a schedule again. I will be taking two art courses this semester and I'm looking forward to them. My first class is Photography 1. It's a good thing I bought my DSLR last year for my trip to Paris! I hope that my photography skills will improve so I can post more interesting pictures on here. I might as well add a new tab for photography too. My second art class is Life Drawing. Should be interesting.

So I hope you all had a fantastic break, and a good Christmas season. The new year looks to be an interesting one but hopefully good!

Finals are over!

Hello friends! Sooo... I finally have pictures of all the paintings I've done this semester! The final four pieces are on canvas and painted with acrylic paint. The first two are silhouettes of birds. Once again, I was focusing on the positive and negative spaces within the piece.

They're both tiny paintings. On like 4x6" canvas. If you look closely you can see different colors and faint brushwork for the feathers. The next two paintings are a diptych. I painted both of these with a palette knife and LOTS of paint. I had a lot of fun with these two paintings, and the great thing about them is that it took me no time at all to paint them.

The last picture I'm showing on here is of my final for my independent study class. We had to show all of our work that we've done this semester and hang them like they were in a gallery. I was cramming for space so my paintings are nicely packed together on the wall. Anyways, I had fun with it and I'm pleased with how they came out. I was worried that none of them looked like they went with each other but I feel like the last two paintings I did tied everything together. Hope you all enjoy!

And for my fellow students who participated in the final, you all did a great job and I enjoyed looking at all your art!

So... Lately I've been working on this album design for my boyfriend. I will have those up later, but right now I want to post a poster that I designed for the album. I think it turned out pretty cool. Tell me what you think!

album painting

Another painting for the album. It's cropped in the final design but here is the full painting.

I painted this picture for a CD cover. But I still tried to incorporate it into my painting style. I will have the whole album cover and book on here soon once I get it completed. I hope you guys like it!

The path is narrowing...possibly

Sorry I haven't posted anything for a while! I've been battling a cold for the past week and I've also been moving. It's been good, but stressful and tiring, that's for sure. I hope all of you had a good Thanksgiving, and for fellow students, a nice break from classes.
Sadly, I do not have any new paintings or projects to post on here today. I've been stressed out about getting things done before finals hit, but haven't made much headway. I'm planning on having at least a couple new paintings up within the next week or so. I have a painting that's almost complete so that should be up soon.

Today, I visited a graphic design studio here in town (Wichita) and was given the grad tour of the place. I liked the size of the studio. Their office is literally inside a house and the three designers work out of there. One does websites and design, another does the illustration, and the third works mostly with production. I found it to be a comfortable space to work in and could see myself doing something like that in the future. I've had trouble lately, figuring out what I wanted to do in the field of graphic design. There's so much out there in this area of study!
I've always leaned more towards the illustrative aspect of design (or at least aspired to it). I'm good at layout and design, but I'd much rather draw or paint something than sit and move blocks of text around. Since I started studying graphic design, I've gained a much greater appreciation towards layout and text. I now look at everything from a designer's point of view. I see and recognize fonts on random buildings, billboards, commercials, and other marketing tools. It really freaks some people out.
Yeah, but anyways, I think I'd much rather work for a smaller studio than a large corporation, though I will not exclude it in my hunt for a job. I feel that smaller is more personal, and I like that about it, but unfortunately, my taste in everything seems to be either expensive or hard to get. But hey, at least I'd get to do something I love, right?

t-shirt design

Sorry I haven't been able to post anything for a while. I've been busy with classes and moving so I haven't had much time to paint this last week. However, I can upload something I've been working on for my graphic design. It's a t-shirt design for the song I'm doing an album cover for. So yeah, wasn't actually asked to do this, but I had time and came up with this. I also have the design on other possible colors. Hope you guys like it and feel free to tell me what you all think!

oh and the site wont let me upload pdf files so the quality isn't that great.

A Brief Description

So here's one of the paintings I posted about earlier. I've been doing this series of abstract hot air balloons since earlier this summer. I've had a few that focus more on the balloons, but recently I decided to show more detailed landscapes with a limited color palette (or no color) and have these faint little spots of colors that represent the balloons. I like to think of them as a glimpse of hope, constantly reminding what's around them that not all is lost. Being a vision of inspiration and guidance for the onlookers.

With that said, I think I'll continue this theme for a while and I hope you guys enjoy the paintings that follow.

Paintings!!

So this weekend has been great for painting. I actually had time! Recently, my works have been in watercolor and ink. It's very different than the stuff I used to do and I'm still trying to figure out methods and such (I would kindly take any advice you have on ink or watercolor).
So anyways, my latest paintings are landscapes that feature these abstract little hot air balloons in the distance. That's kind of the theme I've been running on lately. I will post pictures later this week of what I've done this weekend.

Greetings!

Well, as my very first blog post I suppose I will talk about how I got here (to writing a blog that is!). I've been thinking about starting one for a while to use for my artwork and to start networking more. I tried doing this a while back ago and for a short time I had a tumblr account, but I failed at that. Usually, I was overwhelmed by all the other cool blogs that I just looked at those and never did anything with mine. I was also too shy to actually dump my thoughts online for everyone to see.

Or I didn't know what to talk about.

Probably both.

So here we go! Another attempt at blogging. If I don't update anything, please start bugging me about it until I do (seriously). I feel like this time around will be good and I'm looking forward to showing everyone what I've been working on lately!
