Sorry I haven't posted anything for a while! I've been battling a cold for the past week and I've also been moving. It's been good, but stressful and tiring, that's for sure. I hope all of you had a good Thanksgiving, and for fellow students, a nice break from classes.
Sadly, I do not have any new paintings or projects to post on here today. I've been stressed out about getting things done before finals hit, but haven't made much headway. I'm planning on having at least a couple new paintings up within the next week or so. I have a painting that's almost complete so that should be up soon.
Today, I visited a graphic design studio here in town (Wichita) and was given the grad tour of the place. I liked the size of the studio. Their office is literally inside a house and the three designers work out of there. One does websites and design, another does the illustration, and the third works mostly with production. I found it to be a comfortable space to work in and could see myself doing something like that in the future. I've had trouble lately, figuring out what I wanted to do in the field of graphic design. There's so much out there in this area of study!
I've always leaned more towards the illustrative aspect of design (or at least aspired to it). I'm good at layout and design, but I'd much rather draw or paint something than sit and move blocks of text around. Since I started studying graphic design, I've gained a much greater appreciation towards layout and text. I now look at everything from a designer's point of view. I see and recognize fonts on random buildings, billboards, commercials, and other marketing tools. It really freaks some people out.
Yeah, but anyways, I think I'd much rather work for a smaller studio than a large corporation, though I will not exclude it in my hunt for a job. I feel that smaller is more personal, and I like that about it, but unfortunately, my taste in everything seems to be either expensive or hard to get. But hey, at least I'd get to do something I love, right?
